ADB and its developing member countries (DMCs) are facing rapid global change. The warming climate, the COVID-19 pandemic, biodiversity loss, and other difficulties threaten to upend progress.
ADB must rethink how it works with DMCs.
ADB has become much more than a financing partner. It needs to constantly innovate to drive operations and meet <a href="https://www.adb.org/sites/default/files/institutional-document/435391/strategy-2030-main-document.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Strategy 2030</a> targets for the climate, gender, and private sector operations.

The Innovation Hub will create a culture that delivers essential solutions in ADB and its developing member countries.
How the hub drives innovation
<ul>
<li>Applied learning. Strengthen staff&rsquo;s ability to design and deliver state-of-the-art projects through training and learning programs, innovation tools, repositories of best practices, and peer-to-peer knowledge exchange.</li>
<li>Partnerships and networks. Join forces with external and internal partners to execute ADB&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.adb.org/sites/default/files/publication/614226/adb-faces-innovation.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Innovation Framework</a>.</li>
<li>Innovation management. Update how ADB defines innovation, identifies and supports pioneering projects.</li>
<li>Applied innovation. Steer projects along the entire project-processing life cycle by testing and initiating novel approaches in ADB projects or by partnering with external partners to pilot and adapt innovations in DMCs.</li>

The hub partners with ADB&rsquo;s Budget, People, and Management Systems Department to share innovation skills with staff and DMCs and increasingly apply innovation tools in ADB projects.

Sustainable, Inclusive, and Green Financing Mechanism Maximizing Co-benefits of Air Quality Improvement and Decarbonization in the PRC

Nuclear technology plays important role in multiple &ndash; and very diverse - development areas, including food and agriculture, human health, non-destructive testing and plastic waste management. IAEA is supporting its Member States, particularly in the Asia and the Pacific region to utilize the nuclear techniques effectively and efficiently to achieve national development goals in line with the broader UN Sustainable Development Agenda.
In the area of Food and agriculture the IAEA is focusing on two main topics: food production and food safety. Food production includes, among other things the use of mutation breeding for the development of more productive and resilient varieties with the use of irradiations. Such crops are better prepared for the challenges associated with climate change. Food safety includes the use of nuclear technology for the detection of contaminants, verification of the origins and authenticity of food, and the establishment of international standards. Use of nuclear technology for food safety is particularly important for international trade in agricultural products, particularly between developing and developed nations.
In the area of Health nuclear technology is a critical component for radiology, radiotherapy, and nuclear medicine. Particularly, radiotherapy is one of the main types of cancer treatment. It uses ionizing radiation to destroy cancer cells and limit cell growth. The strategic IAEA initiative in this area is &lsquo;Rays of Hope&rsquo; that focuses on forging new partnerships and tapping into diverse funding sources, including from governments, international financing institutions and the private sector to ensure maximum access to cancer treatment for people in developing countries.
Non-destructive testing (NDT) is a type of inspection using methods and techniques applies to industrial components without damaging or impairing its future usefulness. It is used across various industries, including oil and gas, power generation, automotive, aerospace, construction and general manufacturing.
Use of nuclear technology for Plastic Waste management is one of the priority areas for the IAEA implemented under NUclear TEChnology for Controlling Plastic Pollution (NUTEC Plastics) Initiative. NUTEC builds on the IAEA&rsquo;s efforts to deal with plastic pollution through recycling using radiation technology (NUTEC upstream component) and marine monitoring using isotopic tracing techniques (NUTEC downstream component). NUTEC aims to establish the network of monitoring laboratories around the globe to characterize and assess marine microplastic pollution, and to support the Member States in developing the industrial technologies based on the use of ionizing radiation for transformation of plastic waste into reusable resources.

Innovative Solutions through Nuclear Technologies for Social and Economic Development in Asia and the Pacific: IAEA Initiatives

Reverse Linkage is the Islamic Development Bank&rsquo;s very own in house mechanism for South-South Cooperation. It facilitates the transfer of knowledge, expertise and solutions among its 57 member countries to enable them to tackle their development challenges. It is an innovative win-win mechanism involving public, private and 3rd sector stakeholders that can be applied across a wide range of sectors and thematic areas
